Where it all began

Hi, my name is Kristoffer, and I have wondered whether plants should be watered more times than I care to admit. My wife and I love plants, and our home is filled with them. But with kids, work, and everything else that comes with a busy life, we often end up watering the same plant on the same day. Some plants drown, others get forgotten, and we rarely remember which plant actually got watered.

After having doubts enough times, I decided to find a solution. I started experimenting with the idea of ​​a pot where you could see the plant's water needs on the side of the pot, so it was always easy to see whether the plant needed water or not. It sounded simple, but it took 357 tries to get it right. About 11 plants died along the way, but then came the moment that changed everything. One plant had survived for more than six months, and I could watch the indicator move down as the plant drank water. It was an aha experience, the feeling that it finally made sense.

This is how Side Level Planters came about. A pot category where the water is visible on the side, so you know when the plant actually needs more. Neither too early nor too late. All the pots are designed and produced in Denmark in small batches to avoid overproduction. They are made of 100 percent bio-based plastic and are manually finished, so each pot has its own character and finish. There is a lot of craftsmanship in each one. It takes longer, but the result feels right.

From medico to plants

On a daily basis I work with development and prototypes in a Danish medical company, where precision, quality and patience mean everything. I bring the same approach here, just with a little more soil under my nails and a few more green test subjects. It may be an unusual combination, but I believe that when you take the thoroughness of an engineer and combine it with something as everyday as plants, something quite special can emerge.

How do I remember to water my plant?

Do I still need to water it myself?


Yes, you still need to add water. Moii just reminds you when. When the indicator drops, just pour water directly into the reservoir.
What if I forget anyway?

Then nothing urgent happens. The plant still has water in the soil. But because the indicator is such a visual and integrated part of the design, Moii just makes it much harder to miss that it's time.
How often should I water my Moii pot?

It depends on the plant but typically you only need to water every 2 to 4 weeks. The reservoir at the bottom ensures that the plant draws up the water it needs itself.
Should I water from above at the beginning?

No, not at all. You don't need to water from above at all. You can simply pour water directly into the reservoir from day one. It doesn't get any easier.
Should the plant be planted directly in the pot?

Yes, to achieve the full effect of the system, simply plant your plant directly in the Moii pot with a good and airy soil mix.
Does the pot require batteries or an app to work?

No, not at all. Moii is a patented mechanical system that works completely without electricity or electronics. Just a clean and simple analogue design.
Will the pot leave marks on my furniture?
